The rise of Panerai and Diesel's large dials has made large dials a trend for watches. 44mm is already considered standard, and 47mm is more individual. Even Rolex has upgraded most of its product lines to 41MM, and the new Sea-Dweller has even increased to 43mm. In recent years, with the rise of Nordic simplicity, the neutral 40MM watch has become the mainstream of watches.
So what size is the most suitable watch for men?
The size of the watch will be differentiated according to the model and purpose, but generally there are three major types: large size, general size and small size. Generally speaking, large-size watches are suitable for leisure and sports occasions, and small-size watches are suitable for fashionable social occasions, but at the same time, you should also consider your body shape, style preferences, etc.
First, measure your wrist circumference
You can use a soft ruler to measure your wrist, try to wrap the tape measure tightly, close to the position behind the wrist protruding bone. If you don't have a tape measure, you can use a soft rope or a piece of soft paper around the corresponding position of the wrist. Remember, it must be the wrist you want to wear the watch on, and everyone's left and right wrists are generally different in thickness.
Convert the measurements you made in the previous step to millimeters. For example, 16 cm equals 160 mm. Divide this number by the diameter of the watch you want to buy. For example, if you want to buy a dress watch with a diameter of 38 mm and your wrist is 160 mm in circumference, the result will be 160/38 = 4.2, which is called the case index. Based on this result, we can determine whether the watch size is suitable for your wrist. The best case index for you ranges from 4 to 5; less than 4 means the watch is too big, and more than 5 means the watch is too small. (For example, if your wrist size is 160 mm, then a watch size of 32 mm to 40 mm is suitable for you.)
Ideally, the watch case should be about the same size as your wrist, and try not to exceed the edge of your wrist. Imagine your wrist is a plate, and you don't want the food to spill out when you put it in. So, how big a watch should be is a matter of personal preference, but remember not to exceed your wrist.
If you want to buy a medium-sized watch, there is an unwritten rule that the watch case should take up at least three-quarters of your wrist. Otherwise, it will make people feel feminine.
Sometimes, a thicker watch will look wide, and a thin watch will look small. Most men think that watches with a diameter of 40-44 mm look good, because this size is medium-large for them. If you have a small wrist, a 36 mm watch is suitable in some cases. But for men, it is best to avoid watches below 38 mm.
